S-LCA 2026
The Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA) Conference is a biennial international event that has promoted social sustainability and life cycle thinking since 2010. The upcoming 10th edition, S-LCA 2026, will be hosted by Life Cycle Indonesia (LCI) in Jakarta, Indonesia, from June 17–19, 2026. This marks a significant milestone as it will be the first time in over two decades that the conference is held in the Asia-Pacific region.
S-LCA 2026 continues the conference’s global mission, serving as a leading platform for researchers, policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators to exchange ideas and advance the field of social life cycle assessment.
Under the theme “Unity in Diversity,” S-LCA 2026 will explore how social impact assessment can drive inclusive sustainability solutions, foster collaboration across industries, and address global challenges. The event is designed to be a hub for everyone, engaging diverse stakeholders from academia, business, financial institutions, NGOs, media, producers, and civil society—all from various regions, industries, and backgrounds.

The S-LCA conference is a unique context always filled with very passionate individuals looking to share their knowledge and critically engage in content discussion. Whether from a research or industry perspective, the concept of social impact takes on many different angles.
For me, as an S-LCA expert, it is one of the only settings in which a group of highly knowledgeable and experienced people meet on the important topic and are able to have technical exchanges. The most beneficial aspect of the conference is the culture of learning embedded within the program and the chance to critically engage in questions and discussion with attendees presenting their work. On top of this, the time in between to meet others working in the field is invaluable – giving new ideas and collaboration potential.
Above all, the conference is a space of inspiration for techniques and approaches on protecting and caring for society’s most basic human rights – something needed now more than ever before.

I had the privilege to attend my first S-LCA Conference as part of the hosting institution. This was the 8th edition and it took place in Aachen just after the COVID-19 pandemic. Actually, it was one of the first post-COVID in-person conferences after the lock downs.
I was personally overwhelmed by the turn out and the enthusiasm, partly due to the fact that the participants were longing to mingle again after the social restrictions. It was also a conference where research and implementation of S-LCA were significantly boosted, emphasizing the need for a just transition and a holistic approach which integrates the social perspective.
I had the opportunity to closely network with S-LCA stakeholders from policy, academia and industry, with whom fruitful collaborations have been established. To me, this was the main takeaway in enhancing and consolidating my personal and professional goals to promote social wellbeing.
